A federal judge Saturday afternoon ruled that an Egyptian family of six should not immediately be deported after immigration agents suddenly re-arrested the family hours earlier.

The outbreak in Gaines County, with a population of about 22,000, has grown since two cases were reported in January. All those who contracted measles were unvaccinated, health officials said.

Judge Jeffrey Brown pointed to comments from the governor and GOP legislators as the basis for his ruling that the new map can’t be used in 2026.
