Crash brings down power lines blocks busy south Charlotte highway

CHARLOTTE — A highway in south Charlotte was blocked Monday morning for a crash that brought down a utility pole. The crash happened just before 3 a.m. on Highway 51 at Bannington Road. The area is east of Carmel Road. Paramedics said one person was hurt and was taken to the hospital for treatment. A Channel 9 crew at the scene could see power lines in the road and crews working to restore power to nearly 800 people in the area.
