Ottawa Countys popular Pigeon Creek Park to undergo logging for safety forest health
OTTAWA COUNTY, MI – Ottawa County Parks & Recreation announced plans to remove red pines from Pigeon Creek Park, a popular spot for hiking, biking and skiing, to protect users from safety hazards and improve the health of the forest. “While it may be difficult to see trees being cut down, a benefit to removing this crop plant is a more diverse forest waiting in the seedbank,” according to a March 30 news release about the upcoming logging. “As this diverse forest grows, it has the potential to bring new species to Pigeon Creek Park.” Red pine forests cover about…
