St. Petersburg, Fla. — Tampa Bay Rays starting pitcher Jeffrey Springs has held the Tigers without a hit through the first six innings in Sunday’s series finale at Tropicana Field.
Springs, a lefthander, has fanned 12 against just one walk as Tampa Bay owns a 1-0 lead entering the bottom of the sixth. Springs has only allowed a second-inning walk to Nick Maton.
It continues a tough opening weekend for the Tigers’ bats, with just two runs scored combined in two-plus games, both losses.
