Democratic members slammed the process, questioning why hearings were happening before maps were available for review. Chair Cody Vasut said follow-up public hearings will be scheduled once maps are filed.

To fill her seat for the remainder of the current term, Gov. Greg Abbott would have to call a special election for the Houston-based district.

Abbott demanded that the utility company produce a plan by the end of July outlining how it will improve power reliability ahead of future storms.
