Valparaiso launching recycling education campaign
VALPARAISO — The city is launching a recycling education campaign to help reduce contamination and maximize efficiency. In the fall, the City Council approved a garbage collection rate increase and reduced recycling collection from once a week to every other week. The changes were made after a financial analysis found that Valparaiso’s trash and recycling collection program requires about $2.5 million a year: $1.8 million for operational costs, $570,000 for buying and maintaining the city’s fleet of trucks, and $94,000 for maintaining roads frequently traveled by garbage trucks.
