HOUSTON — When Florida Atlantic was clinging to a one-point lead with less than 10 seconds to play in an NCAA men’s semifinal game on Saturday night, San Diego State coach Brian Dutcher faced a choice.
He could call his final timeout to draw up a play and make a critical substitution, as neither of the team’s top shooters were on the floor. Or he could let it rip with the players already out there, trusting that someone would get downhill and give them a chance.
