Whitmer signs legislation repealing 1931 Michigan abortion ban
LANSING, Mich. (WWMT) — A near century-long debate over access to reproductive healthcare in Michigan came to a close Wednesday morning. Gov. Gretchen Whitmer joined Lt. Gov. Garlin Gilchrist, doctors and advocates to sign legislation that repealed the 1931 abortion ban. The 1931 law criminalizes all abortions except for those that would threaten the life of the mother. It does not make exceptions for rape or incest.
